Becky’s Quilt is complete. As many of you know, when each member of our family graduates from high school, I create a t-shirt quilt for them. I learn a lot about my neices and nephews. I find out what activities they enjoyed, sports, musicals, first job, summer camp fun, and lots more. No two quilts come out the same. Becky loves pink. I collaged the t-shirts with back and white fabrics with a spot of bright pink here and there. Then I made a large border onthe top to cover the pillow area of the bed. The other three borders have the same fabric, but much narrower. I meandered around the t-shirts in the center and sstippled in the black section of the border. The backing is puzzle-pieced with the left overs. The overall size is approximately 78″ x 95″.
This is the Flannel Rag Quilt shown in the September release of Holliston Cable Access Television show A Quilter’s Touch. In addition to a little history of flannel and how it came to the US, I demonstrate how to make a flannel quilt and then give a tour of Tala’s Quilt Shop in North Adams, Massachusetts. Tala is a delightful person who is passionate about quilting and teaching others to quilt. Tala donated the fabric used to make this quilt. The quilt was donated to the Holliston Senior Center for their fall fundraiser. Check out the HCAT show to see the secret to rag quilting. It was truely amazing to me!
Motorhome Shop Hop September 15, 2009
This summer I traveled with my husband and daughter to seven quilt shops in MA, NY, and VT in our motorhome. It was one of the best trips of my life! My husband captured footage on Holliston Access Television equipment of an interview I had with each owner. Each shop was so different! Each shop owner had a unique story of how they became owner of the shop and shared their story and favortie quilting tool with me. My daughter was an amazing helper. She knows the quilting language more than my husband, so she was able to instruct her dad as to what to shoot after the interview. What a team! The footage we captured will be shown over the next 8 months on A Quilter’s Touch, a Holliston Cable Access Television Show. If you would like to see any of the shows, just call the station (508) 429-8979 and request a copy for a nominal fee. This was the first time my husband has entered my passionate world of quilting (other than seeing my create in my home studio.) We have a renewed sense of appreciation, love and support for one another. Check out my Calendar on this blog to see when each show will be released.
While I vacationed with my family in Old Orchard, ME this summer, we found a new bicycle trail from Old Orchard to Portland. Along the gravel path we traveled, listening to the birds and taking in the breath-taking views. I’m always inspired by bicycle rides to come home and quilt. I highly recommend traveling to Old Orchard, just north of the beach, and looking for the signs to the trail.
